Frozen Odds
Frozen Odds How do you take on $15 million with nothing but determination, grassroots organizing, and a clipboard? Frozen Odds is a gripping documentary that uncovers the raw power of citizen-led initiatives in Alaska. Following the journey of a small but determined movement, this film reveals how everyday people—outspent 100 to 1 by out-of-state interests—rallied together to challenge the system. Led by an Alaskans for Alaskans who helped write the law and push it to the ballot, this battle wasn’t just about policy—it was about democracy in its purest form. With 400+ volunteers braving the cold, gathering 42,000 signatures when only 26,000 were needed, they proved that people—not money—should shape the laws that govern them. Through intimate interviews, on-the-ground footage, and stunning Alaskan landscapes, Frozen Odds captures the high-stakes struggle against political elites (aka Lisa Murkowski and George Soros, etc.) and the enduring spirit of grassroots activism. Though the campaign fell just 700 votes short out of 320,000, it laid the groundwork for a new wave of initiatives—this time, with three fresh petitions ready to take the fight forward. In a world where billionaires and lobbyists try to control the political process.
Frozen Odds asks a bold question: What happens when ordinary citizens refuse to back down?
